More Persuasion....

Years ago I started reading Jane Austen sequels and was really put off by the ones I read. Since then, I think they have improved. I just recently read Captain Wentworth's Diary by Amanda Grange and I found it delightful. Amanda Grange also has written Mr. Darcy's Diary and I enjoyed that too. I started Mr. Knightley's Diary, but I guess I wasn't in the mood or something, because I couldn't get into it. I will have to try that one again. Besides the Amanda Grange books, I would also recommend the Pamela Aidan series, Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman. This is a trilogy. The book names are: An Assembly Such As This (my personal favorite), Duty and Desire (my least favorite- you can skip it and move to the last one),and These Three Remain.

Persuasion by Jane Austen

Okay, it's been a while since I have read a Jane Austen book even though she is my favorite author. I read Persuasion over the Spring Break. I haven't read it since I saw the newest adaptation on PBS so I had forgotten what parts of the adaptation were "made up" and which things were really part of the book. It was more faithful to the book than I thought, except for the disastrous last 10 minutes! I think it's probably getting to be time to re-read more of her books. Reading Persuasion reminded me of why I love to read Jane Austen's books. She is such a great author! If you haven't read Persuasion lately, do it. It is not that long.

Have a Joyous Easter!

In honor of Easter this weekend, here are some songs to help contemplate the Savior's great gift to us! The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in the history of the world! "Oh, what joy this sentence gives: I Know That My Redeemer Lives!"

This is "If the Savior Stood Beside Me" that was sung at the General YW meeting last year. My two daughters were privileged to sing in this choir!

I Stand All Amazed by the same Young Women Choir:

I Know That My Redeemer Lives!

This is the hymn "This is the Christ". The words were written by Pres. James E. Faust.

Some of my favorite hymns.....

Faith in Every Footstep

As Zion's Youth in Latter Days
This is my favorite of the hymns that the girls sang in the choir at the General Young Women Meeting.

I love the song Heirlooms:

Thy Word is also a great song:

Ireland's Best!

In honor of St. Patrick's Day I thought I would add a little sampling of my two favorite Irish imports that are definitely praiseworthy: The Irish Tenors and Riverdance. These are from contributors to youtube. ENJOY! And Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Favorite Jane Austen quotes

Here is a list of some of my favorite quotes or phrases from Jane Austen's books:

For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbours, and laugh at them in our turn?

I am all astonishment!

Are you excessively diverted?

I must have my share in the conversation!

From Captain Wentworth's letter in Persuasion:
"You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope."

I'll have to look up this quote to see if I have it quoted correctly. I also don't know if this is only from the A&E adaptation.
Pardon the intrusion. It was kindly meant.
